What's That Smell
Folks all over town have been complaining about how bad the town smells. I talked to a friend who told me that residents in Greenfield Subdivision complained at the town meeting that for the past five years they have been putting up with the smell of raw sewage in their neighborhood.
Why would anyone allow this to continue in their community is beyond me. Wake up folks, your breathing this odor, your kids are breathing this foul odor. We have Environmental Agencies that monitor the safety of citizens. I was astonished that the citizens accepted the word of the town to fix the problem for the past five years and continue to put up with the odor.
Its never pleasant when you have to make people accountable but the odor isn't pleasant either.
Where is that overpaid Sewage Superintendent? He must have been working one of his other jobs, as codes inspector, inspecting homes, running his trucking company, or flipping houses. Just read the herald, he sure moves a lot of real estate. Actually he is not the problem, the Mayor is the blame for allowing the employees to hold more than one job for the city and have their own business on the side. You can't juggle that many jobs and be effective at any of them.
There was a couple from Nashville that looked at homes in White Bluff Hills. They wanted to live in the country. They called to say they had concerns about the foundations in several of the homes. And that the new homes had major cracks across the entire foundation of several homes they looked at. All I can say is, Mr. Codes inspector, hope someone has your back, I heard that this has been reported to the state showing photos of the mess you inspected and approved.
Our city stinks, literally, there are other reports of chemicals coming from the new sub-division off of White Bluff Road. Seems it happens only at night, what are they burning?
Hope the Fire Department i.e. Eric Deal can check this out. I trust he knows more than anyone at City Hall.
Have a Happy Holiday to all and a note to Greenfield Ridge get busy and call OSHA or the EPA?

I don't live in town or Greenfield Sub. but I have noticed a sewer smell on clear nights lately. I live about a quarter of a mile from there. Our sewer lines need to be checked for leaks because we never used to have this smell until about a month ago. There has been alot building going on in our area in the last 6 months or so.I don't think I could put up with the constant smell though.Has other people had this problem who don't live in town or in Greenfield subdivision? There has to be something wrong that they havent't found. Where's our water and sewer guy and what is he doing to fix this problem?
I've had a problem with the sewer smell for probably 8 or 9 years. It comes up through my kitchen or bathroom sink in the morning (depending which one you use first).
I called them years ago and they did check it out, then told me when the smell got bad it was gas build-up in the line and to go outside to the manhole cover and raise it up a little.
First off, this doesn't work and second, what kind of solution is that?
Good luck in getting the problem fixed folks, I'm still waiting and they keep adding people on to a system that is already over loaded.

Every year when it gets cold out side you will smell the sewer. If its cold up here and still warm down there and hot air rises so does the smell. You can smell that in any city when the weather turns off cold. Once it stays cold it will go away. If you smell sewer coming from fixtures dont call the sewer department call a plumber. If the house is not plumbed right it will seep back in to the house.
Summer, Winter, Spring or Fall....the smell is there. It's not the pluming because it never happened till I hooked to sewer.
Ever asked why there aren't more businesses at the 'Jazz Center'?
But we can add hundreds of houses.
Just saying.
Yall know me, I post here from time to time. I just wanted to let everybody know that I called Danny's office Friday and finally got him on the phone. I asked him about the smell, his words to me were, "that's the smell of progress". As I sat there stunned, I really didn't know what to say so I just hung up.
As for The Regulator, if The Regulator says there's not going to be a prison, you can bet your bottom dollar there WILL be one. We all know what a myopic hoax that pseudonym always has been. I wouldn't mind spitting some Beech Nut in that dude's eye. We're going to do some more digging on all of these things, and get to the bottom of it. I appreciate everybody's input and information. Let's keep up the good work!

The smell of progress won't benefit me any. I'm just a ordinary resident. It makes me wonder sometimes how the people who are benefiting from our city's so called progress can even stand themselves. They must not believe the "you can't take it with you" saying.I wouldn't want people thinking I'm some kind of scumbag.I'll stick with what I have and be happy with it.I don't think you should benefit from climbing your way up by stepping all over others backs. But they say what goes around comes around. And justice will be served on those deserving by the Power Most High, I believe.Progress does stink after all.
IF ALLS THE STINKY IS COMING FROM BAD PLUMBERING
THEN THAT JUST SHOWS TO GO THAT WE NEED TO BUILD MORE NEW HOMES WITH GOOD PLUMBINGS
AND CONDEM THEM THAT STINK AND ARE WORE SLAP OUT
SO WE DONT HAVE TO SMELL IT ANYOMORE
THANK YOU CITY HALL FOR POINTING US IN THE WAY OF
TRUE PROGRESS
Hey Reg-If it's the plumbing thats stinking that don't say much for the homes in Greenfield sub does it?They're just several years old. Yeah, we definitely need more of those.More homes, more stink.More progress.
I personally think the smell is worse on the first tuesday of every month. I assume it's because all the decision makers who have their head up their butts are in one room together.
THIS THRUSDAY IS THANKSGIVNG

I am also thankful elections are this Spring. We won't have to put up with this much longer.Out with the old, in with the new.A new beginning for us residents who want more from our leaders than the garbage we have been getting for so long.
If the smell is in your home you should call a plumber. If it is the sewer, get it in writing from the plumber and take it to city hall. If they dont act then you can report it to the state. It sucks you have to do all that but everyone knows thats the only way you can get stuff done.
There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.

Did anybody besides me see the city's equipment working up on 70 highway at the old place that grew all the apples years back? Are we hiring our city employees to work on private property again?Sorry I didn't have a camera at the time or I would have taken pictures and sent them in.Need extra Christmas money?Thats called triple dipping.I got some property that needs clearing too. Would they be willing to come over and do the work for me?Maybe they just do that for their friends.
No, I didn't see them there, I saw Dean and with our city equipment working over on Pleasant View Road today. The property they worked at today belongs to the Howells. There was a house there about two years ago that was burned down. They are wearing out our equipment and we will foot the bill to repair or replace it.
Does the town do private work, is it in the Charter that they can use the equipment for personal gain.
If it's not I'm sure the town team will have it put in. You know, cover your assssk me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.
I don't carry a camera, and I should
Now,I see what everyone is complaining about.
Documnet anything like that and it can be stopped
legally
To Anonymous:
You said, document it and it can be stopped legally, what exactly are you referring to? There are already pictures on one of the postings of this blog showing Dean and the town employees are using town equipment to clean up private citizens property..Pictures don't lie, so there already is documentation out there.
Or, were you referring to something else?
Someone asked me about the copy of salaries I got from the city. I am not going to post them each. This is part of what I got.
Part time Parks Director gets paid for 12 months at about $875.00 a month.
Sewer Supertendent gets paid for working 40 hours a week. And Codes Director 40 hours a week. This is for 1 person doing both jobs. I guess he works at least 80 hours a week since that is what he gets paid for. This is over $1200.00 a week plus 40 cents on the dollar for each building permit issued.
Police Chief 40 hours a week. And Street Supertendant 40 hours each week. Works at least 80 hours each week. Over $950.00 each week total. If you think I am not adding this up right, check the Classification Pay Plan I posted a while back.
I don't know how these people are left with any energy after working 80 a week, week after week.
I was surprised 2 of the City's guys weren't making more than they are for their years service and their jobs, but I guess they are satisfied with their salaries.
I'm sure the Regulator, who is friendly with people in high places can explain the pay scale. Hope so.
I did get a letter from the city's attorney saying if I wasn't satisfied with the information I got from the city, I could re-submit my request. Charge? $25 dollars an hour for research plus copy cost. Taking a page from the City of Dickson I see. I guess he doesn't know they already gave me the information about a month ago.
Anyone who can, please flip this to the John Q page at my request. Thank you. Be safe.
that last post was from LIl
MERRY CHRISTMAS REGULATOR
I THINK THE SALERIES THAT LIL PUT DOWN ON HERE ARE A DISGRACE
THEY SHOULD MAKE DOUBLE OR TRIPLE THAT
AND THE HEAD MAN SHOULD BE PAID AT LEAST 100 THOU A YEAR FOR ALL THE PROGRESS HE HAS BRUNG
DID ENYONE HEAR THAT THE COUNCIL MEETING HAS BEEND PUT OFT FOR THIS WEEK BECAUSE OF THE PARADE THIS SATIRDAY?
I'm sure the parade Saturday has nothing to do with town meetings. Forget that. The salaries posted sure doesn't show anyone of them being under paid. This is a small town, not Nashville.Job pay scales are according to the number of people in the community you serve. I know that because of my own job.Nobody there is hurting for money. They did just get a 5% across the board pay raise.I'd love that myself, but I don't see it happening.
Is that 5% or 15% depending on how many jobs you hold. Three different pay checks means you get three separate raises. What a deal!
And the park director, boy what a free ride, what does he do during the fall and winter to earn a check.
From the looks of things, he does the same thing in the fall and winter that he does year round. That's a lot of nothing!

Surprise Surprise.
The story about the White Bluff City hall in the paper today says they is now thinking about putting a basement in the damn thing and making that the community center too. Another half a million or thereabouts. That money pit is getting bigger all the time.
BLUFNOTE: Hi there Larry, good to hear from TaylorTown today.
Thanks for the post and the info, that was an interesting story wasn't it?
I remember someone up there saying they did not believe in reinventing the wheel and another saying they had already invested so much on proposals they did not want to change now when asked before about changing the way the City Hall project was being done.
Of course those responses were to questions about spending less or getting offers from others on the plans. I guess when it comes to spending more or building bigger then its ok.
Money Pit you say? Well if they add a basement they will have the hole."
why not just put the whole town hall in basement
what a bunch of coconuts

Who's to say if they end up needing more room for the city hall later on they won't take what is supposed to be used as a community center?Nothing. That sure would be convienent wouldn't it?All a community center around here is used for is to be rented out anyway.Think of the basement as rental property. It's not going to be opened and used without charging people for being there. There's nothing community about that.It will only serve the people who are willing to pay for the privilage of the use of the building. If any residents had suggested building it , we would have been told no, we don't have the money.Go figure.
I THINKS IT IS A FINE IDEA
A GOOD NICE BASERMENT FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT
GOOD IDEA DW
THERE WILL BE A TOWN HALL MEETING ON THURSDAY EVENING DECEMBER 14 AT 7:00 THE THE AMADEUS THEATRE.
EVERYBODY PLEASE COME AND GIVE YOUR INPUT TO THE COUNTY MAYOR
Short recap of planning and zoning meeting;
Second phase of subdivision White Bluff Hills approved on condition a second entrance/exit is gained.
New business opeing in White Bluff, they didn't say the name of it.It will be a whare house distribution via ebay and other means. This is over-stocks, returns and the such. Some items will be from sears and different places. So the property wouldn't have to be re-zoned they will allowed to be open to the public to walk in purchase goods no more than 3 days a week and no more than 1 auction a month to clear out current merchandise and get in new .This way they will not be considered a retail business and need not be re-zoned.
There was a request taken off the agenda. A woman, who was not identified, had been looking for a place to produce ethanol. She wasn't sure if the property she looked at was going to be large enough so it was taken off the list to be re-zoned. We might hear more about that later if she finds property inside the city limits that will suit her needs.
I saw the city's equipment and workers out on 47 across from the shell today. Look to me they were cleaning some stuff up but they were to far off the road to be on the ride of way. Just thought I'd see if anybody else saw what I saw on my way home.
where is that wearhouse going to be at LIL
I'm not sure where the warehouse will be. It may be the old one there going to the dumpsters. That sounded about right. If you drive by there you might see trucks and vechicles. I think that is probably right. They said the building didn't have store front windows, just an entrance and garage doors that lift up.
Glad to see all the bit**in has slowed down. Check the site from time to time, but it was getting old.
I think that warehouse was the one that people said was contaiminated back in the day
that don't sound safe to me
but what do they care
THE PRISION IS A GOOD IDEA IT WILL BRING JOBS AND MONEY TO TOWN
White Bluff Council considers pay raises for elected officials
By Kim Leady
For the Herald
Published: Friday, 01/05/07
White Bluff Mayor Danny Williams requested that the council consider raising the monthly pay for the mayor, during Tuesday night's meeting.
"Four years ago when we raised the pay for the council I was running for reelection and didn't feel it appropriate to request a raise for the mayor position, but I'm not seeking reelection this time and I feel that the mayor's compensation should be raised," Williams said. “Although it's not about the money. If that were the case none of us would be here. We're here because we want to help our community. But it may entice more people, maybe a retired person looking for a part-time job, to consider running for mayor.”
The last time the mayor's pay was increased was 12 years ago. The current monthly salary for mayor is $400. Williams recommend the council consider raising the salary to $550. The council also discussed raising the council's pay from $100 a month to $150 and the planning commissioners monthly $25 to $50.
"I'm concerned about what the impact of the increase will have on our budget. We are already going into debt for the new city hall and fire station. And I must tell you my heart is really heavy about that," said Councilman Dale Whitfield.
Comparisons were made of other cities around the county and what they pay their elected officials.
Burns pays no monetary compensation to their elected officials. Charlotte pays $500 for mayor, $200 for council members and $25 for planning commissioners.
The salary increases have to be in place before the April 28 election by a private act, which requires State Senator Doug Jackson and Representative David Shepard to present it to the legislature for passage and then it returns to the council for final ratification. At that time the council must pass it with a 2/3 vote.
If the raises are approved, only the newly elected members will reap the benefits. Council members who are not up for reelection, which include Connie Reed, Eric Tidwell and Oscar Martin, will not see an increase. The seats that are up for reelection are Williams's and Councilman Dale Whitfield and Councilwoman Linda Hayes' seats.
After serving 8 years as mayor, Williams is not seeking reelection. Neither Whitfield nor Hayes has filed papers seeking reelection as of Tuesday. Those running have to file by noon on Jan. 18.
The recommended pay increases were passed 3 to 2 with Reed, Martin, Hayes voting yes and Tidwell and Whitfield voting no.
In other business:
* Appointed Councilman Oscar Martin to Planning Commission
* Amended zoning ordinance to clearly define industrial areas for storage facilities
The next White Bluff City Council meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 6 at city hall.
Well now....now we know the real reason for taking away the $60,000 tax money that was for the schools. It's being used to "put more in their pockets." The current salary is pretty good, especially since you're working less than 5 days a month. "Part-time job?" Most part time jobs have you working by far more hours than what they're doing. And the Mayor gets paid whether he "shows up or not." BTW: where was he when the "County Mayor" came to town? Still a lot of money being spent for a Town Palace and we're not getting Ambulance/Emergency Services? That's what the Big Mayor said! Just in case you - like the Mayor - wasn't there to hear it for yourself.
We need an ambulance service more than the new town hall
greedy self serving is NOT what we need
VOTE VANCE SMITH FOR MAYOR
OF WHITE BLUFF
IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE
TIME FOR A CHANGE
BUT ONLY A SMALL ONE
VOTE LINDA HAYES FOR MAYOR
KEEP A GOOD THING GOING
I think anyone who has followed which council members voted for spending alot of our money for the next 30 years are smart enough not to make the same mistake twice. I don't know who, or how many people are running for mayor and council members. If someone does know, could you please post the names? I would like to find out more on the candidates before I vote. And before my husband votes. We don't like the decisions being made now by our current leaders and don't want to see any ofem back in office.
I have been going to council and zoning meetings for over a year. Where have the people who are running for office been? Not at the meetings. You can't depend on word of mouth and the newspaper to know what is going on in White Bluff. Are the candidates going to start attending these meetings between now and election time? Are they going to have meeting and introduce themselves to the residents? There are alot of new people here in town that never heard of these people. I hope they do campaign so we will know what they are for and what they want to see done for our city.
I don't think there are but two running for council
so they will both be elected because two seats are open.
That is Whitfield and Jeff Martin who already has his daddy Oscar on there.
Linda Hayes is running for mayor to take her ex son in laws place
and her brothers father in law is running against her, Vance Smith he was the mayor about 15 years ago.
that is your choices
really no choice for council UNLESS someone starts a write in
I heard two other people wanted to run but there was some confusion on the deadline
The election is not until April so I don't understand why it had to be set in Jan.
From what I know of Linda and how she has done as vice mayor I will vote for Smith
What happened to John Q? Did he get bored? Did he grow up? Is he out there spying for another great story? Where oh where are you John Q? For someone who claimed to really care about the City's welfare, it didn't take you long to get bored with it.
why don't you grow up donna
I think it is a valid point. Where is John Q.? Whats new. The sight has not changed for a while. Come on John Q. Give us somthing else to gripe about.
I would like to know more about how a write-in candidate works. Do they still need the 25 signatures of registered voters and meet the other requirements of those who have already turned this info in?Anyone who has this information, please share it.
Maybe John Q's mind works alot like mine.Alot of people don't like the way things are going but, I haven't seen them at any of the meetings. Why do pleople depend on the city to notify them when something is going to effect them directly?Like building condos across the street from you?I wouldn't depend on it myself. I would rather be there and know exactly what is said and by who. That's the reason I tape the meetings myself. If nothing else, find out about the people running for office and VOTE.I'm glad Dale Whitfield and Eric Tidwell are showing a bigger interest in how tax payers money is spent and other thing that need to be done.I hope they keep a close eye on what is being spent for the city hall, inside and out. There's some money that could be saved there if they want to.
Ya'll need to grow up. Any of you leaving messages on here are a bunch of bitches. Instead of running your mouth on computer, say it to the people your talking about. Why make nicknames for people. Ya'll are a bunch of DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!1
