MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

This is great information! Thanks for posting it.

After reviewing this, my first question was, why is the Assistant Fire Chief making more than the Fire Chief? Thats like paying the Vice President of a Bank more than the President?
The Fire Chief is responsible for the Fire Department as a whole. He makes all of the command decisions. Why would he make less? I would not be the head of a department and have anyone under my command making more than me.
Did you Know:
The sum of the total salaries paid out to City Employees equals $353,500.00 a year. How much money does the town collect in taxes? Now, add the additional 5% pay increase of $17,975.00 for a total of $377,475.00.

I believe this is half or more of the sum of tax dollars collected, according to what was published in the Dickson Herald.

I have questions. Who is the plant operator? What does he do for $27,340? Is this the same employee that is the Superintendent? What exactly does the Superintendent do? If you combine these two jobs for one salary it would save money! The Superintendent is not that busy. He spends more time in his truck than working.
The Part-time Park Director, what does he do? I never see anyone at the new park. Occassionally I do see the lights on at night for hours and the park is empty. We are paying, when the lights are on and no one is playing on the field. Does the Director include mowing the field at the park in his salary or does he make even more money mowing the ball park and billing the town for it? So what do we get from the Park Director for $964.25 a month.

Now lets look at the maintenance and street department. Other than mowing what do they do? I would say they mow grass 5 months out of the year? The least paid of the three makes maintenance positions is $1501.46 a month.(including 5% increase)
Does the town have the equipment to do street repair. I have seen other companies do some repairs on the streets. Does the town have equipment to patch holes in the streets? Or is this a job that is contracted out. What exactly does the mx department do other than mowing. When mowing season is over, then what type of work are we paying for during the winter?
THE BOTTOM LINE IS, WHAT ARE WE GETTING FOR
OUR MONEY?
Also, how are the pay increases being calculated? Is each position getting a 5% percent increase or each employee? If each position gets an increase then an employee holding two or three positions would average a 10 to 15 percent increase in pay.

city recorder $30,540
municipal clerk $24,040
fire chief $12,540
asst. chief $27,290
parks dir.part time $11,020
police chief $32,540
seargent $30,340
officer $26,390
officer $24,040
animal off.part time $ 9,020
sewer supertendent $32,440
plant operator $27,340
maintenance part time$12,000
street supertendent $23,040
maintenance street $19,760
maintenance street $17,160

John or Jane Q

Look at the last post on blufwatch or the repost here on your last blog before this one.
You can add 6,500 to most of those salarys

speaking about the fire chief and asst chief I think the asst chief works more hours and has been there longer on pay.
they did not even have to hire the chief for poay at all they could have hired one of the other volunteers. the title for the volunteer dept has nothing to do with the paying job the city has.

you are right about the sewer plant it is 2 diff people and one more part time
one full time and one part time could handle that.

your guess is good as mine on the parks director really doing anythingr
i say power trip in his case is why he stays there
and dont forget his wife is on the council.
And just try and get ahold of him or her for something. even to let kids in to pee at the comm center.

The Fire Chief gave City Hall that figure. That was all he wanted. From what I understand they had planned to pay him more than the Assistant Chief but he declined. As for the hours worked he does put in a forty hour work week.

YO, SUNNY DUDE-IF THE RECORDER MAKES $30,540 AND GETS A 5% PAY INCREASE, THAT's A INCREASE OF $1,527 A YEAR. YOU HAVE TO DO THAT FOR EACH PAY.

GOOD FOR THE CHIEF . STILL VOLUNTEERING PART OF THE TIME.I'M SURE IT'S APPRECIATED.

Just looking at the people listed that have salaries-It doesn't show the city Judge, Part time codes guy, how much the court clerk gets.
Is that on top of all this other stuff?I don't know about anybody else, I'm not made of money. I don't want my property taxes to go up because of this crap either.

I thought unless you had a certain number of employees working for you, you don't have to pay for their insurance. If you don't have to, then I say don't.That's alot of money. This is freaking crazy.

the paying jobs at the fire dept are up to the mayor who to hire
not the fire dept
they could hire who they want and pay them the whatever they want too

the cheif i think is on retirement from one job
and paid by the county for driving a school bus
and then gets that check frm the city to

aint to say he dont earn it but just a fact

From what I learned this morning, the city covers employees but no longer pays for employees family health converage. Just wanted to get that info out there so people can get a clear view of what is going on.

As I said before I do think everyone deserves health coverage, if not provided at least to be able to earn a wage where they can afford that cost. Which brings me to this point, if the town was not planning on paying millions for a useless building how much more could they pay those employees that fall in the category of underpaid or undercovered? And I think most of us can agree even if we feel there some there that are overly compensated, there are others on that pay scale that are not. Bad thing is, usually the ones that actually deserve more that don't get done right.
Which speaks to management decisions more than anything else.

Anyway, just something else to add to the list of items where the 1.5 Million could be better put to use.

THEY DO GET A PAYCHEK
BUT NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE THE CHIEF AND ASST CHIEF
BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE HIRED.
IF THE MAYOR WANTED TO HE COULD HIRE SOMEONE FROM BURNS FD OR EVEN JOHN Q WHATSHISFACEWHOGIVESADAM
THE MAYOR IS YOUR CEO
AND THE MAN RUNNING THIS TOWN LIKE IT OR NOT

so the fire Chief draws three checks ?

smooth
he deserves it!

no, the chief doesn't get but one check from the city for that job. It showed 12,000 a year.He drives a bus and that is from the county.

I imagine if he only asked for that amount and volunteers the rest of his time he's there, that gives him the time to do his route.I could never put up with noise those kids make and keep my mind on driving.I'm sure they earn whatever they get.

read it again
i did not say 3 checks from the city

they say he is retired
and gets one check there

one for the city
and one for the county
that is 3 ok?

i think he probably takes the lower amount from the city because if he is retired and gets a govt check he can't make too much somewheres else

thank you for correcting me.That is 3. and i think you're right about how much you can make.Hmmm.

Can anyone tell me when the Town of White Bluff is hiring again? I would love to get 2 or 3 salaries for putting in an 8 hour day.I'm sure I too could learn how to sleep at night and talk to taxpayers with out laughing in their face while I am taking money from them I have not earned.
Oh-yeah, can I get hired soon? I'd like to get in on the increase as well!
I have worked for a lot of companies and I have never found one where you can hold more than one paid position. Typically you get added responsibilities and a minimal raise. Does anybody know where this occurs in the Coporate world? I understand that corporations are responsible to the shareholders to account for all money spent and earned. Shouldn't the town be accountable to the taxpayers?

John Q,
Does the codes inspector get a salary and a commission? How does that work, it seems to be a conflict of interest.

At 12:00 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

John Q you have inspired me! I'm fired up seeing all this money wasted. If they have 1.5 million to spend on Brabie's Dream Hall, then why can't they lower the sewer or tax rates? I just wanted to let you know I'm keeping my digital camera handy. I'm going to do my part to help change the way things are run. This is our town and those clowns have taken their last free ride on me!

Barbie ain't even had wet dreams that expensive

keep in mind with 2 jobs that is 2 raises total of 10%
mighty good for government work

At 12:56 AM, Anonymous another anonymous said...

I'm not John Q but, the sewer man gets a salary for that job, a salary as codes, and 40 cents on the dollar for a permit.According to the original town charter, an employee can hold more than one position, it's the old charter, I don't know about the newest one.I took that more combining 2 jobs into one though. But I don't think it said anything about a salary for each job. I can't see that as a conflict of interest, unless he was the one building houses and buying permits

At 1:01 AM, Anonymous bad boy said...

i dont think it is illegal to have two city jobs but i dont think it is good for the town
i know people who have called for the police chief to be told he was mowing today

and does the sewer super clock out to go make more money writing permits or does he make double during that time
who is minding the store
is it Danny or anybody?

That camera thing comes in handy, you see people and things of interest, you just click away.

At 1:09 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey bad boy- the sewer thing is regular hours, except when something has to be fixed after hours.I think that's called overtime.I'm pretty sure people get their permits during the day too.So yeah, I guess theres no clocking out, it's multi-tasking with better pay.

BLUFNOTE Good Wednesday to you Tybeedude. Sorry for the delay in getting these last coupla posts on, but it is great napping weather!

Thanks for the post, well stated in your refreshing straightforward way.
There are so many things the could be done with the excess money slated for a new City Hall. Even if the cost were cut in half (as mentioned before check the building in Pegram for example, reportedly less that 700 grand, compared to 1.5 million proposed here)
the list of things that might better serve the town with that amount of money boggles the mind.
Might be a good time to start a list of those on here. Your suggestion on the sidewalks is one I can fully endorse. As well as some town streets being in dire need of repair. Others have mentioned funding something at the Community Center for teens to do, a few basketball courts for example, or maybe some ping pong tables, maybe even a teens only band party once a month or so. Several areas of town seem to always be in need of some mowing or sprucing up, and I am talking publically owned areas. As mentioned before, updated computer systems for City Hall, not only are needed, but would probably in the long run be a savings. Better salaries could be paid for those that deserve them, along with some better equipment for the fire and police.
A few years ago there was talk of a public library here in town, I can't say what the level of support there would be for that, but I dare say it would benefit far more people that an overbuilt City Hall.
I could go on, but want to see ideas others can come up with.
And even if the money is not needed at this time for something else, who knows what really important issues might arise in the near future?

Here's my idea. If we bought 57.7 acres for the Veterans Park, and we know we are not going to use all of it, sell most of it to build a new city hall. Then we wouldn't go in so much debt. Why was so much property bought for a Veterans Park anyway? We don't need to buy land just to have it.That is not something we need to do unless we a specific purpose for the land in advance.

they should put up like a metal building out there for city hall
and fire department too.
it don't need to be on taylor town road it is too narrow right there
metal building for all of it should not cost more than 100,ooo

they can still call it Danny Williams Palace

Its kind of like Donald Rumsfeld said back in the summer of 2001 "By some estimates the Pentagon cannot account for $2.3 trillion".
It might be best if we let the guys in town with the biggest egos control the money. Have faith in them, after all, we elected them, and who is actually going to hold a damn one of 'em accountable? You?

i did not vote for one ass up there

and I do vote

fire them all if you ask me
every time we get a new mayor they should have to rehire every position
if they do a good job rehire
if not
